Privacy and cookies

In short

• You don't need an account or to give any information to read the site.
• My own read counter uses no cookies and keeps nothing that identifies you.
• Google Analytics cookies are stored only if you allow them.
• Videos don't load from YouTube until you press play.
• Fonts and images come from this site's own server.

Read counter

I count how often articles, projects and pages are read with my own counter. When a page opens, the server only receives which content was read and in which language.

• No cookies are used. A temporary marker is kept in the browser tab so that reloading the same tab is not counted twice; it disappears when the tab closes.
• Your IP address is held in memory for a few minutes only, so that one reader's repeated reloads are not counted, and is never stored.
• If your browser sends a "do not track" signal (Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control), the counter does not run at all.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are read, where visits come from and which devices are used. The service is provided by Google; data may be processed on Google's servers abroad.

• If you choose Accept in the bar at the bottom of the site, Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_…) are stored. Google keeps these cookies for up to 2 years by default. The legal basis is your explicit consent.
• If you choose Decline, or make no choice, no cookies are written. Google then only receives cookieless signals that do not identify you (Google Consent Mode).
• Advertising permissions are always off; there are no ads on this site.
• You can change your decision at any time with Cookie preferences at the bottom of the page. Declining removes the Google Analytics cookies already stored.
• If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, you are treated as having declined.

Your choice is kept only in your browser, in local storage under the name content-os-consent; it is not sent to the server.

YouTube videos

Some articles include YouTube videos. A video does not load until you press play. When you do, it opens from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's reduced-cookie address; from then on YouTube's (Google's) privacy rules apply.

Server logs

As on any web server, requests to the site are written to server logs for security and troubleshooting: IP address, date and time, the requested page and browser details. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. These logs are kept for about two weeks and then deleted.

Links in articles lead to other sites. Their privacy rules are their own.

Your rights

Under Article 11 of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK, No. 6698) you have the right to learn whether your personal data is processed, to ask for information if it is, and to ask for it to be corrected if incomplete or wrong, or deleted if no longer needed. If you visit from the European Union, your rights under the GDPR also apply. You can send requests about these rights to [email protected].
